A five-case lacquer inro decorated in gold and black takamaki-e and hiramaki-e with a continuous landscape scene.

Comprising of huts upon a mountain amongst trees above a lake setting with boat prows present.

Japan, Edo Period

18th / Early 19th Century

A close look at the design suggests one section appears to be missing - this was not an uncommon practice - when one section became badly damaged, the easiest option was to remove it. In many cases, such as this, the loss was not glaringly obvious.
A few small chips & areas of wear.
